We have already shown you how to get internet on your smartphone during your adventures in Nicaragua. But in this article we will show you how to use Google Maps and not use any of your precious data! Sound too good to be true? It’s not! Just follow the these simple steps…
- While you are at home or in your hotel with a WiFi connection, open your Google Maps app on you smartphone or tablet and sign in.
- Next search for a place like Managua, Nicaragua.
- Now touch the name of the place searched, then click on the More options button that looks like this…
- Lastly click Download .
- Select the map area you wish to save to your device and finish downloading. Ta-Da! You’re good to go!
Now in the map will appear in under ‘Offline Areas’ on you main menu.
The details about your offline Map
You can save maps up to 120,000 Square Kilometers in size. Try anything bigger and it will let you know to reduce the selected area. Still, that’s the size of Washington State. Not too shabby, huh! Downloaded maps expire after 30 days if you don’t update them. If you have notifications turned on for your app, when the map is 15 days out from expiration your App will let you know and give you the option to update while connected to a WiFi network. You can use the downloaded map for driving directions with voice navigation just as you would normally with an internet connection.
